Welcome to SpOIL Your Pet: A Practical Guide to Using Essential Oils for Dog and Cat Owners.
We love our pets! They are family members, and they deserve only the best. We strive to give our pets the longest, healthiest lives possible and believe that the key to longevity is prevention of illness and maintenance of good health.
Dogs and cats race through life, entering adolescence at 4-7 months and beginning their golden years at age 7. To put it in perspective, they age an average of 6-10 years for each of our calendar years.
Always, follow your veterinarian’s advice about protecting your pet from diseases, parasites and conditions prevalent in your area. We recommend a biannual physical examination for all dogs and cats. More frequent veterinary visits may be needed depending on the age of the pet and any particular medical condition(s) it may be facing.
We value annual blood work, even in healthy pets, to thoroughly evaluate and discover any illness or concern as early as possible. It is important to focus on maintaining good health and well-being as well as addressing any specific ailments. Blood tests and other diagnostic testing may be recommended more often for certain conditions. Greater success is achieved when instituted early in the course of a disease and when a combination of traditional and complementary veterinary medicine is used.
Prevention of disease or illness is imperative. In addition to regular veterinary visits and annual testing, provide high quality nutrition, supplements such as omega-3 fatty acids (fish oils) and a probiotic, and use essential oils to support your pet’s immune system. Essential oils offer complementary therapy, enhancing other therapies and are best used under the supervision of a veterinarian. In some cases, essential oils may offer complete treatment or cure your pet’s condition.
