More about SpOil Your Pet

Welcome to SpOIL Your Pet: A Practical Guide to Using Essential Oils for Dog and Cat Owners.

We love our pets! They are family members, and they deserve only the best. We strive to give our pets the longest, healthiest lives possible and believe that the key to longevity is prevention of illness and maintenance of good health.

Dogs and cats race through life, entering adolescence at 4-7 months and beginning their golden years at age 7. To put it in perspective, they age an average of 6-10 years for each of our calendar years.

Always, follow your veterinarian’s advice about protecting your pet from diseases, parasites and conditions prevalent in your area. We recommend a biannual physical examination for all dogs and cats. More frequent veterinary visits may be needed depending on the age of the pet and any particular medical condition(s) it may be facing.

We value annual blood work, even in healthy pets, to thoroughly evaluate and discover any illness or concern as early as possible. It is important to focus on maintaining good health and well-being as well as addressing any specific ailments. Blood tests and other diagnostic testing may be recommended more often for certain conditions. Greater success is achieved when instituted early in the course of a disease and when a combination of traditional and complementary veterinary medicine is used.

Prevention of disease or illness is imperative. In addition to regular veterinary visits and annual testing, provide high quality nutrition, supplements such as omega-3 fatty acids (fish oils) and a probiotic, and use essential oils to support your pet’s immune system. Essential oils offer complementary therapy, enhancing other therapies and are best used under the supervision of a veterinarian. In some cases, essential oils may offer complete treatment or cure your pet’s condition.

Mia K. Frezzo, DVM

Dr. Mia Frezzo is a veterinarian, wife and mother of three young children who resides in northern New Jersey. Her passion for veterinary medicine was initiated and fostered by her uncle, also a veterinarian, with whom she worked and studied since the age of 14. She graduated from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1998 and returned home to New Jersey to practice veterinary medicine. She is the owner and medical director of the Animal Hospital of Hasbrouck Heights in Hasbrouck Heights, New Jersey. Dr. Frezzo’s patients, primarily dogs and cats, benefit greatly from her combined holistic and traditional approach with an emphasis on natural health and prevention of illness.

Dr. Frezzo became convinced of the power of essential oils when the oils cured her 2 year old daughter of a chronic respiratory illness, and she no longer had to rely on a nebulizer and daily prescription medications. As Dr. Frezzo became increasingly frustrated with her daughter’s lack of progress and dependence on medications, she sought other remedies. She turned to Jan for help. They had met at their local yoga studio, and she knew that Jan was knowledgeable in using essential oils and natural healthcare. Jan introduced Dr. Frezzo to the power of pure essential oils. Within just two weeks, her daughter’s respiratory signs were fully resolved.

While working for the NYCDOH, Jan was introduced to essential oils to help with her 14 year old dog, Kasey, who had Canine Cognitive Disorder or old dog “dementia”. At first skeptical about the power and benefits of using essential oils, she soon became convinced when her dog began acting and feeling better and lived to the age of 19. Since then, Jan has completed extensive coursework in aromatherapy and essential oils for animals. Her passion for natural health and her scientific background has allowed her to help and heal people and their pets worldwide as she continues to share essential oils with family, friends, students, and clients.
